New Light-Based Art Installations Illuminate Downtown

Robert M. Allen’s “Western Skies Lantern Walk”

Nine temporary light-based art installations envisioned by local artists will activate City Brights III, a unique partnership between the Department of Arts & Culture’s Public Art Program and Albuquerque ArtWalk. The installations will illuminate Downtown through spring of 2026.

City Brights III will switch on two art installations during the December 5 ArtWalk in Downtown Albuquerque. Robert M. Allen’s “Western Skies Lantern Walk” celebrates Albuquerque’s wide-open skies and Arrive, one of the City’s most glamorous Route 66 hotels, with a lantern procession starting at Robinson Park on Central and Park Avenues at 6 p.m.

Alonso Indacochea and Adrian Pijoan also open the series with “Tower of Cower II” at Studio 519, a multi-level sculpture built with vintage televisions that cycle silent films, surveillance cameras and live video as a commentary on migration and border crossings.

More artist announcements, project locations, and activations will be announced soon, with all nine installations featured on ArtWalk and Albuquerque Public Art Program’s social media pages through spring. Many of the installations feature architectural light interventions, lighted sculptures, and digital projections creating a brilliant experience.
