Chamber Board Approves 2026 Legislative Agenda Focusing on Public Safety, Education, Health Care and Business Infrastructure

Today, the Chamber’s Board of Directors approved the 2026 Legislative Agenda which guides our lobbying and communications efforts during the current session of the legislature. Our theme is straightforward and compelling — New Mexico Competes. Our goal is to make our city and state a great place to start and grow a business and a safe, exciting place to work and raise a family.

As a state, we’re endowed with incredible natural beauty and a rich and diverse set of cultures. We are, however, underperforming in critical areas that are essential to create a vibrant and growing economy: poor education results, high crime rates, restricted water supplies and access to quality health care. This is not a formula for success. It’s not a formula that will attract businesses to expand or locate in our state. It’s not a formula that will create more and higher paying jobs.

People, especially young people, are leaving for greener pastures. To reverse this trend and build a brighter future for all we must make New Mexico a safer place where families have access to excellent schools and quality health care. We must support and nurture our small businesses, the backbone of our economy and not weigh them down with costly new programs and unmanageable regulatory requirements. And finally, the Legislature needs to prioritize capital spending so that big, transformative and impactful projects get built rather than spreading capital dollars across too many small projects.

Accomplishing this vision of a better future takes many actions on many fronts. In the following pages, our 2026 Legislative Agenda lays out a roadmap that will build a robust economy delivering benefits to all citizens. This is what we will advocate for in Santa Fe. We encourage you to read this document which has been carefully researched and thought through. Thank you for your interest and support in GACC’s mission and work to represent what’s important to business.
