BENEFIT OF BEING OUTSIDE: Gallup home to Outdoor Economics Conference Sept. 8-10

New Mexico’s outdoor economy continues to make strides in its growth.

On Sept. 8-10, Gallup will host the 8th annual statewide Outdoor Economics Conference.

The conference, focused on issues connected to the state’s growing outdoor economy, will be at Red Rock Park and Conference Center. The conference has become a popular destination for leaders statewide to discuss topics related to growing the state’s billion-dollar outdoor recreation industry and network with other industry professionals.

The state’s top recreation funders, according to the conference, are the N.M. Outdoor Recreation Division, the N.M. Department of Tourism, the N.M. Department of Finance Administration and the state Creative Industries Division – part of the Economic Development Department.

“Hosting the 2025 New Mexico Outdoor Economics Conference is an honor for us. Gallup is the adventure capital of New Mexico. We are excited to promote our outdoor recreational assets,” Gallup Mayor Louie Bonaguidi said. “Partnerships across the community have led to several successful outdoor projects and events. We look forward to the Outdoor Economics Expo to explore and create more opportunities for our area and state.”

The conference will include top leaders from government, tribes and pueblos, the outdoor recreation industry, and advocacy organizations, and feature a wide array of activities including panel discussions, outdoor trips to popular hot spots, and evening networking receptions.

“Since the founding of the Outdoor Economics Conference we have dreamed of holding it in Gallup. Gallup’s beautiful lands and rich indigenous cultures, combined with the jaw dropping vistas, camping and trails of Red Rock Park, the conference location, will make this one of the most unique and enjoyable conferences yet,” said Outdoor New Mexico Executive Director Jeff Steinborn.
