New District 1 City Councilor Stephanie Telles, Re-Elected Councilors Sworn In for 27th City Council

City councilors take part in the swearing in ceremony held on Jan. 4 at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

On Jan. 4, at the Albuquerque Convention Center, Mayor Timothy M. Keller and five elected members of the Albuquerque City Council officially took their oaths of office. The event marked the beginning of the 27th City Council with an increased majority female Council and a third consecutive term for Mayor Keller.

Following a public reception in the afternoon, the ceremony moved to Ballrooms A, B and C, where nearly 1,000 Albuquerque residents, community leaders, and City officials gathered to witness the historic occasion. The mayor and each of the councilors emphasized their individual commitments to addressing the city’s long-term challenges in public safety, housing, and economic development.

The inauguration and oath of office marks two historic milestones: Mayor Tim Keller was sworn in for his third term, becoming the first Albuquerque Mayor to serve three consecutive terms, and with Stephanie Telles winning the District 1 seat, the body’s female majority grew to 6-to-3. The first female majority was with the 26th Council (Pena, Bassan, Rogers, Fiebelkorn, and Grout).

The following leaders officially began their terms at Sunday’s ceremony:

  • Mayor Timothy M. Keller: Serving a third consecutive term.
  • Councilor Stephanie Telles, District 1: Serving her first term, representing the central part of Albuquerque’s west side.
  • Councilor Klarissa J. Peña, District 3: Serving her fourth term, representing the southwest quadrant of the city.
  • Councilor Dan Lewis, District 5: Serving his fourth term, representing the northwest part of the city.
  • Councilor Tammy Fiebelkorn, District 7: Serving her second term, representing the Mid-town and Uptown areas.
  • Councilor Renée Grout, District 9: Serving her second term, representing the far southeast part of the city.
