Earlier this month, the Anderson Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum and special guests broke ground on the much-anticipated Outdoor Balloon Adventure exhibit. This exciting new feature promises to elevate the Balloon Museum experience by offering interactive, family-friendly attractions celebrating the rich heritage and vibrant culture of ballooning in New Mexico.
In addition, the Balloon Museum announced a generous challenge grant from the Jim and Marlene Winker Charitable Trust, which will match private donations to the Outdoor Balloon Adventure project up to $100,000 exclusively during Balloon Fiesta 2025.
“The Outdoor Balloon Adventure will not only expand the museum’s footprint with an outdoor exhibit but will also create a dynamic space where visitors can engage with the art, science, and thrill of ballooning in new and immersive ways,” said Balloon Museum Director Nan Masland. “We are deeply grateful to the Jim and Marlene Winker Charitable Trust for this inspiring challenge grant, which encourages our community to come together and support the future of ballooning and the spirit of discovery.”
Phase one of the project will include a climbable balloon tower, competition ballooning node, a portion of the elevated sky bridge, early ballooning structure, and more.
Designed by the innovative team at Pland Collaborative in collaboration with balloonists, educators, and exhibit experts, the Outdoor Balloon Adventure is a visionary project brought to life through the generous support of New Mexico True, the state of New Mexico, the city of Albuquerque, and dedicated private donors.
The ceremonial groundbreaking event marks the beginning of an extraordinary new chapter for the Balloon Museum, inviting residents and visitors alike to explore the magic of ballooning beyond museum walls.
