THE FUTURE IS NOW: Albuquerque hosts the most innovative minds during Quantum Week

Albuquerque will be in the spotlight as the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers hosts Quantum Week this week through Friday, Sept. 5.

The IEEE International Conference on Quantum Computing and Engineering (QCE), or Quantum Week, is a premier international gathering of quantum researchers and industry members that brings together quantum science and innovation.

The conference will include keynote speeches from industry leaders representing tech giants such as IBM, Microsoft and NVIDIA.

A quantum computer is a computer that uses quantum mechanical phenomena — which can operate an enormous number of possibilities simultaneously, though still subject to strict computational constraints.

Zachary Yerushalmi, CEO & Regional Innovation Officer of Elevate Quantum and keynote speaker, said it’s fitting New Mexico is hosting the event in the 100th anniversary of the field because of the state’s extensive science history.

“The state’s special role reflects not only its history of innovation, but also the scale and ambition of its strategy today to accelerate the commercialization of this technology at unprecedented speed,” Yerushalmi said. “Elevate Quantum is proud to support New Mexico and the region in realizing a technology that can catapult us into the Jetsons’ age and usher in a new economic paradigm for all.”

Tania Armenta, Visit Albuquerque president and CEO, said Quantum week is an example of how Albuquerque’s history in science and growing technology can attract forward-thinking events.

“This conference will bring together some of the brightest minds in the field, while also delivering significant economic benefits to our community,” Armenta said in a statement.

The state of New Mexico will also host a New Mexico Quantum Pavilion at the conference featuring the collective strength of its innovation ecosystem and representation from the city of Albuquerque, the New Mexico Partnership, Roadrunner Venture Studio, Elevate Quantum, CNM Ingenuity, Sandia National Labs, the University of New Mexico and the Air Force Research Laboratory.
