GETTING PROJECTS DONE: Bernalillo County Commission approves resolution to accept $25.9 million in capital outlay

The Bernalillo County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution last month to formally accept $25.9 million in capital outlay appropriations from the New Mexico State Legislature.

The funding, secured during the 2025 legislative session, will support critical projects across the county, including affordable housing, behavioral health services, infrastructure upgrades, public safety, and youth and community programs.

“This resolution brings to life an ambitious set of projects made possible through months of collaboration and advocacy,” says County Commission Chair Eric Olivas. “We are deeply grateful to the Legislature, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham and our county leadership for making these transformative investments possible.”

The appropriations include $19,454,000 to Bernalillo County and $6,523,444 designated for nonprofit organizations.

Each commissioner voiced strong support for the resolution and emphasized how the funds will benefit their respective districts and the broader community.

Some of the projects will:

  • Demolish an existing building and plan, design and construct a child development and family services facility in the South Valley.
  • Acquire rights of way and plan, design and improve Atrisco Vista Boulevard from Double Eagle Airport to Paseo del Norte Boulevard NW.
  • Plan, design, construct, equip and furnish Phase 2 improvements in the Paradise Hills Community Center.
  • Acquire land and plan, design, construct, equip and furnish Phase 1 of a new fire station for the Southwest Mesa.
