NEW YEAR, NEW LEADERSHIP: Bernalillo County Clerk begins job

On Jan. 1, Michelle Kavanaugh was officially sworn in as the new Bernalillo County Clerk.

Kavanaugh, who was elected to the position in November, brings extensive experience to the role after serving as deputy county clerk for four years.

During her tenure, she oversaw critical functions of the office and championed initiatives to make government more accessible, improve voting convenience, and ensure every voice is heard.

With a deep understanding of the challenges facing democracy, Kavanaugh is dedicated to providing experienced and steadfast leadership in her new role.

“I am honored to serve the people of Bernalillo County and to work alongside such talented deputy clerks,” said Kavanaugh. “Together, we will continue to uphold the integrity and accessibility of our elections and public services.”

The ceremony also marked the swearing-in of two new deputy clerks — Denine Morelos and Kelli Baca.

Morelos is widely respected for her statewide expertise in Recording & Filing and her valuable contributions during election seasons. Baca brings exceptional knowledge of election administration and a strong commitment to excellence.
