HONORING A FORMER MAYOR: City names Albuquerque Museum lobby after Jim Baca

The Albuquerque Museum recently named its lobby after former Mayor Jim Baca.

The Albuquerque Museum lobby is now named The Jim Baca Lobby in honor of former Albuquerque Mayor Jim Baca.

Baca, who was the city’s 27th mayor from 1997 to 2001, was recognized as part of the Keller administration’s ABQ Stories of Us initiative.

The project pays tribute to the extraordinary people, past and present, who have left an indelible mark on our city’s history, and who have worked to improve the lives of Albuquerque families.

“Among his many accomplishments, Mayor Baca played a pivotal role in making the Albuquerque Museum what it is today,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “His vision and advocacy helped it become a leading art and history institution in the Southwest, a place where all families can connect to our city’s rich heritage.”

The Jim Baca Lobby stands as a tribute to a lifetime of community dedication, public service and an unwavering commitment to Albuquerque and New Mexico.

During his tenure as mayor, Baca championed the expansion of the Albuquerque Museum, bringing forth a major new exhibition gallery, a multi-purpose space for public programs and the museum’s café and store.
