GIVING PEOPLE A NEW START: Goodwill Industries of New Mexico reopens training center as The Opportunity Center

Goodwill Industries of New Mexico’s Opportunity Center reopened on Sept. 17.

The renovated workforce training center will be known as The Opportunity Center. It is located at 5000 San Mateo Blvd. NE.

“(The center provides a) wonderful chance to see first-hand how we are supporting New Mexicans achieve their career goals and thrive,” says Nina Chavez, director of government relations for Goodwill Industries of New Mexico.

According to Goodwill, The Opportunity Center will continue to offer these programs to the public:

  • ​Gateway To Work Employer Services — Employer-centered assistance in finding qualified, pre-screened candidates at no cost through career specialists, career fairs and interview events.
  • GoodJobs — Designed to connect individuals with employers throughout the community and help them find long-term employment that meets their needs, abilities and interests.​
  • GoodSkills — Offers comprehensive job readiness training, including hiring essentials, employment basics and computer skills.
  • Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program — Focuses on placing veterans that are currently experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness into long-term employment, as well as provides social services.​
  • Production Assistant Training — Prepares candidates thoroughly for film and TV industry jobs. The training helps improve the odds of success in finding a production assistant (PA) job on a New Mexico production.​
  • Supportive Services for Veteran Families — Helps stabilize housing for very low-income veterans and their families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. ​
  • Veteran Family Services — Provides job development, on-the-job paid training through Trial Works and comprehensive case management to veterans and their family members.
  • Senior Community Service Employment Program — Provides low-income seniors 55+ with work experience and training in order to assist them in securing permanent community-based employment.

Goodwill Industries of New Mexico has been a Chamber member since 1978.
