COVID-19 Video Update #22 – UNM Athletic Director Eddie Nuñez

From time to time during the COVID-19 public health emergency, we will be sending video messages from community leaders that provide Albuquerque-area businesses with information, perspectives, and updates about the spread of the virus, mitigation strategies, directives, and resources.

Please take a moment to watch the video below from UNM Athletic Director Eddie Nuñez on the impact of COVID-19 on the University’s athletics programs. Much as the COVID-19 pandemic has cast uncertainty over so many businesses and industries, it has left UNM Athletics in a place of uncertainty as well, though Mr. Nuñez is confident that UNM’s athletics programs will come back as strong as ever.

As Mr. Nuñez said recently in the Albuquerque Journal: “I can talk to you a lot about hypotheticals, but the reality is there are so many unknowns right now. It all depends on what comes about over the next 30 days. Hopefully the situation will improve over the next 30 days. I do see football happening. I do see all our sports happening. It’s just going to be a modified version of sorts.”

This video reflects information available as it is known currently; of course, this health emergency and the responses to it continue to rapidly evolve.

The Chamber extends our sincere appreciation to Mr. Nuñez for taking the time to update us today, and we extend our appreciation to all those in higher education working to prepare future generations for leadership.
