PARTNERING UP: Bernalillo County, APS launch ‘Health Yeah’ mobile health clinics

Bernalillo County, in collaboration with Wellness Equity Alliance and Albuquerque Public Schools (APS), announced the launch of “Health Yeah!,” an initiative introducing mobile health clinics to students, school faculty and community members.

These mobile clinics will provide free, accessible health care directly at schools and community centers in Bernalillo County.

“Community support is key to great education, and the partnership developing between Bernalillo County, Wellness Equity Alliance, Albuquerque Public Schools and ABC Community School Partnership is another step toward giving kids the help they need,” said Gabriella Duran Blakey, APS superintendent. “We are excited and grateful for the collaboration.”

This innovative program, operated by Wellness Equity Alliance, offers a full range of services, including primary care, mental health support, vaccinations, sports physicals and prescription services. Initially the mobile units will serve Roosevelt, Truman and McKinley Middle Schools with two charter schools, and community centers to follow.

“The ‘Health Yeah!’ initiative addresses the vital health needs of our students,” said Steven Michael Quezada, District 2 commissioner. “By partnering with Albuquerque Public Schools and Wellness Equity Alliance, we’re making sure students get the care they need, right where they need it.”

The Health Yeah! initiative is supported by $1.5 million in recurring funding from Bernalillo County’s Behavioral Health Gross Receipts Tax (BHGRT). Additionally, Congresswoman Melanie Stansbury secured a $422,031 federal grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to further support the initiative.

The mobile clinics eliminate barriers to health care, such as transportation and scheduling conflicts, ensuring students can receive vital care without leaving school.
