MAKING A DIFFERENCE: Chamber leadership advocates for changes to Bernalillo County economic development resolution

On Feb. 25, Chamber leadership — including Terri Cole, president and CEO, Peter Lorenz, chairman of the board and Tom Jenkins, Economic Development chair — presented a letter to the Bernalillo County Commission to defer action on the proposed resolution implementing community benefits priorities into Bernalillo County’s Economic Development Strategy.

In the letter, the Chamber supports the underlying move to strengthen workforce development and increase public investments. Meanwhile, the Chamber also addressed the mechanism proposed in the resolution as it represents a substantial shift in how Bernalillo County structures and negotiates economic development incentives.

Commissioners approved the resolution at Wednesday’s meeting with a vote of 4-0, with Chair Adriann Barboa, Vice Chair Frank A. Baca, Commissioners Eric C. Olivas and Barbara Baca in favor, while Commissioner Walt Benson was excused.
