ANOTHER PIECE OF THE PUZZLE: Roundabout opens and connects Rail Trail to Tiguex Park

City workers finish construction on a roundabout on Mountain Road and 19th Street, which connects The Rail Trail to Tiguex Park.

Despite federal funding being pulled from the Rail Trail — the work continues.

On Oct. 3, the city of Albuquerque opened up a roundabout at Mountain Road and 19th Street.

Terry Brunner, director of the city of Albuquerque’s Metropolitan Redevelopment Agency, wrote “Yes, one can get excited about roundabouts — especially this one at Mountain and 19th Street in Old Town. (It) connects the Rail Trail to Tiguex Park and the Albuquerque Museum. A month ahead of schedule, btw.”

Construction is also continuing on the seven-mile multi-use path connecting Downtown Albuquerque and Old Town with projects in the Sawmill District and near Central Avenue and First Street.

In September, two archways were installed on the Sawmill section of the trail.

Terri Cole, president and CEO of the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce (GACC), highlighted that the Rail Trail aligns with the GACC’s mission to foster a thriving business environment.

She noted that for years, the Chamber has supported this urban trail project, which will allow residents and visitors to traverse from historic Rail Yards through various city landmarks.
