ON A MISSION: Goodwill Industries of New Mexico opens its 20th store on West Side

Goodwill Industries of New Mexico celebrated the opening of its 20th store in New Mexico on Aug. 7.

Twenty — that’s the number of stores Goodwill Industries of New Mexico has in the state.

The Chamber took part in the ribbon cutting for the West Side location, 270 98th Street SW, on Aug. 7.

The location broke ground six months ago for the 18,500-square-foot building.

Goodwill has been helping New Mexicans find jobs and connect to social services since 1941, according to its website, and its free programs are largely funded by revenue generated by its retail stores, which put 88 cents of every dollar made toward its services.

The nonprofit opened its first New Mexico store in Albuquerque in 1941, and the new location is the city’s 10th.

According to Goodwill’s 2024 annual report, the organization provided free job training, career services, skills classes and housing support. The local nonprofit served 21,947 people and helped employ 1,678 people.

According to Goodwill, the new store will employ 23 people and features retail, office and job training spaces. The location will also have a donation drop-off area.

The Chamber congratulates Goodwill Industries of New Mexico for continuing its mission in providing educational and professional services for New Mexicans.
