KUDOS: APS Honors ABQ Reads

The Albuquerque Public Schools Board of Education last week honored the Chamber’s Albuquerque Reads program for its donation and distribution of books, lap desks, and backpacks stuffed with school supplies.

Approximately 250 students at three Title I schools in Albuquerque – Whittier, Atrisco, and Bel-Air Elementary Schools – received these packages in October and early November. Where these students would normally receive one-on-one reading tutoring with Albuquerque Reads volunteers, the COVID-19 pandemic made this in-person time impossible. Instead, the Chamber pivoted to find a way to support Albuquerque Reads in reaching kids at home, through nearly two dozen recorded  read-alouds on YouTube and the distribution of these supplies.
