“AN AMAZING OPPORTUNITY”: Amazon to Open Distribution Center for Albuquerque Area, Creating Up To 1000 Full-Time Jobs

The Bernalillo County Commission announced earlier this week that Amazon will be building a delivery fulfillment center on Albuquerque’s West Side that will create as many as 1,000 full-time jobs in a newly-built, 460,000 square foot warehouse.

As part of the deal to bring the tech giant’s facility to New Mexico, the Commission will invest more than $6 million in roads and utilities for the Upper Petroglyphs Industrial Park, a 1,200-acre business park where the Amazon facility will begin operations in late 2021.

“It’s an amazing opportunity that the city, state, and county have all been preparing for,” said Bernallilo County Commission Chairman Lonnie Talbert. “The County’s role in putting in the infrastructure for this to happen is another example of good government working closely with private enterprise to ensure economic success for all our citizens.”

PNM also played a key role the warehouse deal with Amazon. “At PNM we are proud to be a member of this community, and we celebrate in New Mexico’s success as our state continues to grow,” said PNM President and CEO Pat Vincent-Collawn. “This project will provide jobs and investment, and I believe it is a demonstration that when we all work together towards a common goal, companies will take notice and appreciate the value that New Mexico has to offer. PNM is honored to have been a part of the process to help bring Amazon to our community and we are delighted to welcome them to New Mexico.”
